What will be your famous last words?

Let me think about this.
What movie would you really recommend renting or seeing this weekend?
MUTHAFUCKIN SNAKES ON A MUTHAFUCKIN PLANE!
:D
Well, it made my week much better...
What's your cell phone's ringtone? What made you pick it?
It's the sound of an old-fashion bell telephone. Because "classic" never goes out of style.
What's the point in using a song as a ring tone anyway? How long do you plan on letting your phone ring?
What was the highlight of this past weekend?
My weekend has been mostly great, cept that the end of it was crappy enough to nearly ruin everything. Let's focus on the nice bits.
Songwriters Round #5 @ MOJO
Round #5 is the best evah! (The photos on the side are from it.) Last Saturday had Owen Nicholas, Monique and Alex of Singletrack Mind. They each played two sets. There was open mic with takers: (1) a visitor from Stockholm who read about the Round from the papers that morning. He was pretty good; and (2) Gerald, who had this sweet song for his girlfriend. Andrea and I awww'ed him later, saying that we wish we had someone to write songs for us.
Bryan randomly decides to serenade me, maybe because I was sitting the nearest to the stage. That was hilarious, especially when he spent the entire night praising the virtues of beer, is never seen without a glass of wine in hand, and at one point, walked around with a whole bottle.
Owen is my current favourite boy-with-guitar act, so watching him perform is always a pleasure. Alex is sounding a little more "radio-friendly" than when I first heard him perform at Senso.
Monique was rather nervous in the first set, this being her first time with a smaller audience. Towards the end, she and her co-vocalist Cheryl harmonised nicely on their last song... which gives you the feeling that something is finally going right for them that night.
Much laughter, fun and friends were around, so it was a good evening.
Also, I figured out my camera settings and was shooting right at MOJO for the first time since the Rounds started.
Meeting Narong
Narong Daun is one of my favourite local artists. On Sunday, while wandering around town for hapless members of the general public to interview on yet another pointless topic, I stepped into Ramsey Ong's shop and found her there. Since I've been introducing myself to strangers all afternoon, one more didn't hurt.
We had a nice little chat about the local art scene, and I asked her about her paintings and her work. She's one of the rare full-time artists in Kuching and has been for about 6 years. She told me that her trademark, like it or not, are her hornbills. But like all artists, visual or verbal, the subject matter can get old sometimes.
Party like you're 53
Daf celebrated his 53rd birthday in Borneo and Jennifer threw a garden party at what was once known as Cyril's Woodhouse at Stutong. I was at the end of a long day and it was a nice way to wind down.
There were a lot of familiar faces, one of which is someone I've seen around LJ. So I went up and introduced myself.
I spent most of the evening hanging out with Rose and Henrick, but mostly with Henrick, who was a perfect gentleman - got me drinks and hunted down extra forks, etc. Which was very nice because I really needed a hero by then.
One bit of news he gave me is that the Sarawak Film Society's next screening is this coming weekend at Jambu, but details are pending. If you're interested, keep an eye on the SFS website or on Kaki Kuching.
What did you do this weekend?
Funny you should ask. I had quite an action-packed weekend.
On Saturday, I attended a Gilbert & Sullivan comedy opera entitled "The Sorcerer", performed by the SONS Choir.
On Sunday morning, I went kayaking. Francis has photos on his post here.
On Sunday night, I took my first belly dancing class. That was fun, although surprisingly exhausting.
Jenny: I have no idea, but I suspect it's a combination of all the above. Belly-dancing is fairly new here... read more
